What ran keeps, and what never leaves.

ran reads the tools you connect so Claude or ChatGPT can recall your work, cited, and tell you when two sources disagree. Here is exactly what it keeps, what leaves and when, and who else touches it.

What ran keeps

  • Your documents' text, not your filesThe text of what you connect, kept so an answer can quote it — never the file itself.
  • The math that makes search workNumeric representations of that text — what lets a question find its passage.
  • Links back to the sourceWhere each passage came from, so every citation opens the real page in Notion, Gmail, Drive, Slack or Outlook.
  • The words of files you uploadWhen you upload a file, ran keeps its text and discards the file itself.
  • What a connected app addsIf you let an app add documents, ran keeps the text it sends, or the text of a public page it asks ran to fetch.

What leaves, and when

  • Passages, to the app you connectedWhen Claude or ChatGPT asks, the relevant passages go to that app — cited — so it can answer you. Nothing goes anywhere else.
  • Text, to make it searchableDocuments pass to the providers that file and index them, only to serve you. None of them trains on it.
  • A page request, when an app asksIf a connected app asks ran to fetch a public page, ran's servers request that address. Nothing of yours goes with the request.

Who else touches it

Supabase hosts the database and sign-in, Vercel hosts the app, Railway runs the background worker that syncs your sources and indexes documents, Anthropic files and summarises documents as they’re indexed, Voyage AI makes the search math and ranks passages when you ask, and Composio links the tools under “Add more connections” — each only to serve your request. None of them trains on it. OpenAI is used only with your own key, under your agreement with them; with your own key, your provider’s agreement covers the AI work — unless you let ran finish a failed job on its key, which then runs on ran’s Anthropic account — while Voyage AI still makes the search math.

What ran never does

  • Send, change or delete anythingA connected app can always search and quote your work. If it asks to add documents, that's a separate tick on the consent page, ticked unless you untick it. It can never act in your tools.
  • Mix your work with anyone else'sEvery connection is yours alone. What ran reads for you is scoped to you, never to a team or a company.
  • Train on your dataNothing in your memory improves anyone else's model or product.
  • Keep what you've deletedDisconnecting a source purges its text, its search math and its links immediately — for good. Deleting your account removes your sign-in and everything ran stored, too.

You stay in charge

Every app with access is listed under Add ran to Claude in ran, and a Revoke link cuts it off at once. Disconnect a source and its documents are permanently deleted from ran, immediately — passages, math and links. Your originals are never touched.
